Today (well, actually yesterday) was my last day for Week in the Life...what a surprising week it turned out to be. Many of you know that my husband has been deployed for well over a year. He told me that he would be home around August 30th, but that it could be delayed. I understood this since he has already been delayed numerous times. Waiting for him to return home was like waiting for the rain in South Texas...I would believe it when I saw it.
I had big plans of fidning the perfect dress, teeth whitening, getting the house all cleaned up, his favorite groceries in the pantry and fridge, etc... We were going to make signs, hang balloons, bake a cake, and just make a general BIG DEAL about him coming home.
On Friday morning, I set about my routine of taking the kids to school, cleaning the kitchen, and then working out. In the middle of my very sweaty, stinky yoga workout, Josh calls me:
J: Hey Honey, it looks like I'm not going to be able to leave here until Friday.
Me: Sigh....#*&%@@@! Really? Delayed again???
J: Wait a minute.....what day is it today?
Me: Friday (beat)...Oh My GOSH! Wait!!! What??? Today????
J: (laughing) I'm already at the SA airport. Wanna come pick me up?
Me: (jumping up and down, running in place, running in circles, screaming, laughing) Oh MY GOSSHHHHH!!!!!! Really???? You SUCK!!! (yes, I really said that) I'm on my way!
So, I jump in the car, sweaty, stinky, in yoga clothes, dirty, panting, make-up-less..and of course, he does not care. Although the airport is not far from my house, it seemed like the longest drive ever!
Yesterday we resumed our Waffle Saturday tradition and then had family over. There was lots of hugging, smiles, wreslting, cousins yelling and playing. It was a great day. Josh even got to rock two of our baby nephews to sleep. I love how that man can put babies right to sleep.
So, a week in our lives ended with a bang...which seems to be typical in our family...it's never boring here
